My First Word Book

My First Word Book - Venice Shone Hello? Ever heard of a little thing called plot? This picture book is nothing but words put to pictures! There's no tension whatsoever. I never felt pulled into the story. I mean, even if there was an absolutely STELLAR cliff-hanger of a plot, I'm still not sure I would've enjoyed My First Word Book, because where's the character development? You can't rely on the illustrations to paint the whole picture! Sure, I now associate "50" with fifty brightly colored ice cream cones, but what's their motivation? It's all just pictures of things with their name under each item. Nothing more! I will say this for Shone's sham of a novel: I did finally learn what a pinafore is, thus the extra star in the rating. Call it "the pinafore star".
